Report from the President
The good news
this month is that the new equipment in the training is now fully
functional and the fit out of the room almost complete. We should
now be able to again start running weekend training courses for our members.
See the training section of the website and elsewhere in this newsletter for more details.
We have also welcomed back Allan Hepworth as our LAN manager who will
look after the Centre server and network. With his help we
should also have the media centre fully functional again real soon
now. Watch out for sessions on "How To" on our high end
systems. To enhance the usefulness of the scanning system we have
now purchased a copy of PaintShop Pro X for use there.
The committee also looked again at membership fees and decided that the
percentage discounts proposed had led to confusion and difficulties
with the odd amounts resulting. We have thus fixed new membership
fees for concessions and seniors which will come into effect when the
web site and necessary forms are all updated. The definitions of
concessions and seniors remain as announced last month:
The concession membership fee will be available to any member holding or entitled to at least one of:-
- Commonwealth health care card
- Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card
- Government transport student concession card
The seniors membership fee will be available to any member 60 years of age or over.
The committee also decided on a procedure for disposal of PCUG assets
no longer required, particularly the computers replaced in the recent
training room upgrade. Briefly, all items to be disposed of will
be announced in an email to all members with members invited to make an
offer up to an announced closing date. Then, best offer wins, or
in the case of more than one equal offer, the winner will be decided by
lot. We will be quite happy to accept positive, zero, or even
negative offers - a negative offer of less than the current dumping fee
for an old monitor is quite likely to be successful.
Finally, a reminder that the Annual General Meeting will be held on
Tuesday 3rd October, and now is the time to start thinking about how
YOU can contribute to the PCUG in the next year.
