President's Letter
We
are now half way through the Committee Year, which, under the Rules of
the PC Users Group, runs from the AGM in early October to the AGM the
following year.
The Rules require four office bearers: a
President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer; ten Ordinary
Members; and the Immediate Past President. We started this
Committee Year without a President or Secretary, and with only six
Ordinary Members, and on top of that we lost one of those few.
The
Group is unable to operate legally without a functioning Committee, so
the first months of the Committee Year were spent limping at quarter
capacity. Thanks to a rapid response by members to our cry for help, we
are now catching up, and have been able to restart Main Monthly
Meetings and an increasing use of our other facilities.
Please
start thinking now about next year. We hope to have a fully functional
Group by the AGM in October, and hope that there will be a full
Committee elected at the AGM ready to carry on with no hiatus such as
we suffered this year.
I have been very fortunate to survive in
reasonable health as long as I have, but will not stretch my luck or
yours by standing again in my 86th year. So you need to ensure
that someone stands for President who can enable the Committee to
function by efficiently chairing its meetings and by ensuring that its
decisions are carried out.
Are there candidates for the other three Executive positions, and for the ten other positions?
Start finding out now, and let next year have a running start instead of a lame stumble.
