From
the editor's desk
This month we mount a major
attack on cluttered desktops, where the entire desktop is wallpapered
with icons and finding any sense in their arrangement is sometimes
beyond even the owner's ability. It happened coincidentally. We have a
review of a utility that caught a couple of us after we had overcome an
initial clumsiness in its presentation. That gave rise to a discussion
at a C&C meeting that resulted in a major article on how to achieve
the same result using Windows' own features. The battle was joined when
another reader raised the issue of clean desktops in his article
published here.
Which brings me to the point of
this editorial.
Obviously there is a fair
amount of work involved in producing this magazine, still with a lot of
help from Trevor, and we are
dependant on contributors to provide interesting and stimulating
material. Ken Meadows noticed this and makes the comment in the opening
section of his article. Along with others of us, Ken belongs to the
Micro-80 Users' Group that is older even than the PCUG. Over the years
he has contributed significantly to both groups, and addresses his
article to the Micro-80
Users' Group. But we include it here because it was his concern over
that group's difficulty in getting material measured against the
quality of our
magazine that prompted him to write it. We are a bigger and more
vibrant organisation, and have more resources to call on. But let us
not become complacent because of that. I am grateful to our
contributors for the quality of their material, and hope that they got
as much enjoyment out of producing it as you readers must get out of
reading it.
Keep up the good work. All
contributions welcome.
