Traps and Pitfalls

in Second Hand Magazine Cover Disks

Recently at Coffee and Chat at the Irish Club a member brought in two boxes of old Computer Magazines and their Cover Disks that had become excess to some one else. I took a couple of fairly recent ones hoping to get some “Free” software.

The disk label for February 2006 indicated software that would convert pdf files to Word files. This was confirmed on the magazine's back issues web page which also indicated a time limit, that had not yet expired. However the link on the magazine web page did not work, as there was no such page to be found. This problem was eventually solved when I discovered that the Manufacturer had decided to change their name and only had its new site available. Any redirections from the old site had obviously been deactivated.

With the code from the magazine web site I was able to download.
