PCUG ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2009
&
MAIN MONTHLY MEETING
&
PCUG VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2009

  • The Annual General Meeting of the PC Users Group (ACT) Incorporated will be held at the Grant Cameron Community Centre Conference Room, 27 Mulley Street HOLDER ACT 2611 on Tuesday, 13th October, 2009: Doors open at 7:00 PM for a commencement at 7:30 PM.
A reminder that we cannot operate without a viable Committee, & that nominations close on Wednesday 7th October 2009.  Nomination forms and other relevant information can be found  at https://www.tip.net.au/pcug/members/agm2009
  • Main Monthly Meeting Presentation: Jack White of the ACT Deafness Resource Centre will discuss the needs of hearing impaired people and demonstrate a number of e listening devices and touch on the different types of services available in the Canberra region.

"There are about 55,000 persons in the ACT who have a hearing loss. This is based on the statistics that one in six have a hearing loss. The main needs that people have are they can hear but can't understand speech on the phone, the TV and people talking in groups.
Once a person perceives they have hearing loss, they are advised to visit an audiologist for a hearing test and advice as to whether they can benefit with fitting of hearing aids.
I see about 200 persons a year at the DRC with needs/problems usually after they have hearing aids. ALD equipment can help them.
Persons born with hearing loss are treated and cared for by the Commonwealth Govt owned Australian Hearing Clinics Australia wide from birth to 21 years. The Shepherd Centre in Rivett trains parents to teach deaf or hearing impaired babies to talk with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Where persons are in employment, a Dept of Human Resources program Job Access will fund hearing aids and ALD equipment for employees. On retirement, and if they are a pensioner, the Commonwealth Govt provides vouchers to fund hearing tests, the provision of hearing aids and maintenance."

    Jack White.

In the presentation, I can talk about this and tips on how to best manage the introduction to hearing aids.
